Creating Fragrance for the Way Canadians Live

Hi, I’m Comfort, founder of House of Comfort and a firm believer that a home should do more than look beautiful. It should hold you, restore you and occasionally help you forget about the laundry waiting in the next room.

 

I’m a single mother to a wonderfully curious three year old, a University of Toronto graduate, and I have also had the privilege of studying at Yale University. I grew up between Montreal and Toronto, later lived in Vancouver, and now call Calgary home. I have also visited more than 30 countries, experiencing different cultures, traditions and ideas of what makes a space feel welcoming.

 

Living across Canada has taught me something important about Canadians and our relationship with home. Our seasons shape how we live. We spend long winters creating warmth indoors, celebrate the first open window of spring, and try to bring the outdoors inside whenever the weather has other plans. We want our homes to feel inviting but never overdone, beautiful but still liveable, and personal without needing to announce themselves.

Our relationship with fragrance reflects that same sensibility. We want scent to change the feeling of a room without taking it hostage. It should greet us when we walk in, help us exhale at the end of the day and make ordinary routines feel a little more intentional.

 

I started House of Comfort during a season when I needed those things most. Life had changed, motherhood had changed me, and I wanted to create something that made everyday spaces feel more supportive, personal and alive. Fragrance became my way of transforming ordinary moments into small rituals: lighting a candle after a long day, refreshing the room before company arrives, or making the house smell put together when absolutely nothing else is.

 

That is what we mean by fragrance for considered spaces. A considered space is not necessarily a perfect one. It is a space shaped with intention around the people who live there. It reflects what matters to them, supports how they want to feel and makes room for both beauty and real life. Sometimes considered means carefully styled. Sometimes it simply means choosing peace and lighting the candle before dealing with the dishes.

Our scents are thoughtfully composed, our products are designed to belong in beautiful interiors, and our names say the things many of us are already thinking.
